Honeymoon Itinerary: Destination New Zealand

Destination-My mother reminded me on Saturday that I’m a little over 4 months out from my wedding date. I am very excited about this. Not only do I get to marry the love of my life, in a beautiful church ceremony with the whole church decorated for Christmas, I also get to take the a trip with my new hubby that will take us the farthest from home we’ve ever been to a place both of us have been dying to see….

New Zealand.

The trip will be about two weeks. A lot of people have been asking me to post my trip itinerary with the breakdown of activities and locations.

Before I do that I should point out that this is not your typical crash-on-the-beach-with-a-margarita-in-a-hurricane-glass honeymoon. We’re an active, hiking, kayaking, rafting, horse-back riding couple and we are on a mission to see as much of New Zealand as we can in one shot…which is a challenge in and of itself because New Zealand is made of TWO islands (North and South).   Plus….to be completely honest….

We’re HUGE Lord of the Rings Nerds. Huge. So huge, in fact, that the first Christmas gift my fiance ever gave me over 8 years ago was an Arwen necklace replica from the movies. To which I responded by buying him a limited edition life sized replica of Aragorn’s crown. Going to New Zealand is not only our Honeymoon but the culmination of a nerd pilgrimage that was over 9 years in the making. So there’s going to be stops and activities in shoot locations from the movie. I can’t stop the geeky squeaks of delight just thinking about it.

We’re also being realistic, since we’re not staying put more than a few days in each location  there’s no need to go nuts with our accommodations. We’re staying in mostly AirBnB guest homes, one cabin, and one nice little hotel. I gotta say AirBnB is the place to go. Once we’re back from our trip I’ll be able to speak to it’s pros and cons more accurately but so far it’s been a very easy and affordable way to have unique well-located places to stay in this beautiful country.

Okay so I’ll stop blabbing and get to the exciting part the itinerary.

  1. YAS Lord of the Rings YASSS! I feel like a “pilgrimage” of sorts is necessary for anything LOTR fans. I think it’s beautiful that you and your soon to be husband will get to visit such a special place for your honeymoon! I’ll be praying for you and your fiancé as you prepare for Holy Matrimony!
